Franchise Support Glossary

The franchising world uses many different terms to describe support roles, coaching systems, training programs, and performance tools. Because each brand uses its own language, it can sometimes be unclear what certain terms mean or how they apply to your system.

This glossary is designed to bring clarity. It provides simple explanations of the key terms used in franchisee support, coaching, and system growth, as well as the terminology you’ll see throughout AC Inc.’s programs. Whether you are building your support structure or strengthening an existing one, this resource will help you understand the language that leads to franchisee success.

Accountability Coaching
A structured coaching approach focused on setting goals, reviewing commitments, tracking KPIs, and ensuring consistent follow-through. Central to SGC and Performance Groups.

Action Plan

A specific set of commitments created during coaching sessions or group meetings. Action plans help franchisees develop habits and drive measurable results.

ACcelerator Certification

AC Inc.’s 5–6 month certification program for Field Coaches, Franchise Business Coaches, Success Managers, and Operations Coaches. Teaches coaching skills, KPI coaching, communication techniques, tough conversations, and the full Strategic Growth Coaching (SGC) framework.

Behavioral Assessment (Zorakle)
A franchise-specific assessment used by AC Inc. to evaluate whether candidates naturally fit the Field Coach role. Measures values, judgment, communication style, motivators, and alignment.

Business Consultant (Franchising)
A role title used in some franchise systems, equivalent to Field Coach, Franchise Business Coach, or Success Manager. Provides operational and performance coaching to franchisees.

Business Review Meeting
A structured meeting where franchisees and coaches review KPIs, discuss performance trends, and identify opportunities for improvement. Often follows the SGC agenda structure.

Coaching Agenda
A consistent structure for coaching conversations, ensuring a predictable flow, accountability, and KPI review. The SGC agenda is AC Inc.’s standardized model.

Coaching Cadence
The interval at which coaching conversations occur (e.g., monthly). A consistent cadence improves franchisee accountability and drives habit formation.

Coaching Consistency
The degree to which all coaches follow the same framework, cadence, and expectations. Essential for franchisee trust, performance, and system scaling. One of the biggest challenges AC Inc. solves.

Coaching Framework
A structured model (like SGC) that guides coaching conversations, KPI discussions, goal setting, accountability, and follow-up.

Coaching System
The complete structure a franchisor uses to support franchisees — including cadence, agenda, KPIs, call structure, follow-up processes, and expectations.

Executive Advising
Strategic support for franchisor leadership, focusing on decision-making, operational alignment, coaching systems, team structure, and sustainable system growth.

Field Coach
AC Inc.’s preferred term for the person who coaches franchisees on business performance, KPIs, operations, and accountability. Common synonyms include:
  • Franchise Business Coach
  • Franchise Success Manager
  • Operations Coach
  • Business Consultant
  • Regional Manager / Director
  • Franchise Performance Coach
This is one of the highest-impact roles in any franchise system.

Field Support Assessment
A deep evaluation of a franchisor’s support team, systems, capacity, coaching skills, processes, and alignment. Helps identify strengths, gaps, and growth opportunities.

Field Support Team
All staff responsible for supporting franchisees — including Field Coaches, onboarding specialists, operational support, and trainers.

Field Visit
An on-site visit to a franchisee’s location to observe operations, review KPIs, troubleshoot challenges, and reinforce coaching conversations.

Financial Coaching
Helping franchisees understand, interpret, and apply financial KPIs such as revenue, labor, margin, and profitability. A key component of SGC and field coach training.

Fractional Coaching
Outsourced franchisee coaching provided by AC Inc., including 1:1 coaching, small groups, Performance Groups, and business skills training. Ideal for franchisors lacking internal coaching capacity.

Franchise Business Coach (FBC)
One of the most common industry titles for the role AC Inc. calls a Field Coach.

Franchise Development
The recruitment and awarding of new franchisees. Certified coaches strengthen franchise development by increasing brand credibility and demonstrating strong franchisee support.

Franchisee Accountability Program
Any program that builds habits, reinforces commitments, and tracks progress. AC Inc.’s Performance Groups, Jumpstart, and SGC-driven coaching are accountability-based programs.

Franchisee Performance Groups

AC Inc.’s structured mastermind-style coaching groups where franchisees review KPIs, collaborate, problem-solve, and commit to action plans.

Franchisee Ramp-Up (Launch Phase)
The initial period where franchisees are building skills and habits. AC Inc.’s Jumpstart Program supports franchisees through weekly coaching during this critical stage.

Franchisee Success Manager
Another support team title equivalent to Field Coach or Franchise Business Coach.

IDS (Identify, Discuss, Solve)
A proven problem-solving method used in group settings and coaching conversations to work through obstacles efficiently.

Jumpstart Program
AC Inc.’s 12-week ramp-up coaching program for new franchisees, focused on habit building, KPI understanding, and early-stage accountability.

KPI (Key Performance Indicator)
A measurable business metric used to track franchisee performance. Examples: revenue, conversion rate, average ticket, labor cost, lead flow, and customer reviews.

KPI Coaching
Teaching franchisees how to interpret and improve KPIs. A key pillar of field coaching and the SGC framework.

Mastermind (Franchising)
A collaborative peer group where franchisees share insights and hold each other accountable. AC Inc.’s Performance Groups are a structured, franchisor-specific version.

Onboarding (Franchisee)
The process of preparing new franchisees for launch, including training, early support calls, and ramp-up coaching.

Operations Coach
Another term for Field Coach or Franchise Business Coach, depending on the system.

Peer Accountability Group
A group of franchisees who meet regularly to review progress, identify challenges, and commit to next steps. AC Inc.’s Performance Groups serve this purpose.

Performance Groups
AC Inc.’s mastermind-style groups where franchisees collaborate, review KPIs, solve challenges, and commit to behaviors that drive growth.

Proactive Coaching
Forward-focused coaching using KPIs, goals, and planning. The opposite of reactive coaching.

Proactive Support System
A franchisee support system built on frameworks, KPIs, structure, and consistency, rather than reacting to issues.

Reactive Coaching
Unstructured coaching that focuses mainly on solving immediate problems. Common but ineffective. AC Inc. helps franchisors transition away from reactive coaching.

Regional Manager / Regional Director
A title used by some franchise systems for the role responsible for supporting franchisees operationally and strategically.

SGC (Strategic Growth Coaching)
AC Inc.’s coaching framework that standardizes coaching conversations across a franchise system, ensuring consistent, KPI-driven coaching and improved franchisee performance.

Support Alignment
Ensuring all teams — operations, coaching, leadership, onboarding, marketing — deliver consistent messages and expectations to franchisees.

Support System
All roles, tools, processes, and communication structures that help franchisees succeed. AC Inc. helps design, refine, and optimize support systems.

Support System Audit
A comprehensive evaluation of a franchisor’s entire support structure to identify gaps, strengths, and priorities for improvement.

Success Manager (Franchising)
Another role title commonly used for Field Coaches.

Unit Economics
The financial performance of a single franchise location. Understanding unit economics is critical for KPI coaching and for franchisee success.

Zorakle Assessment
A behavioral assessment used to evaluate fit for the Field Coach role and support decision-making during hiring and development.
